Ugh. My mom hated that nonsense when I was a kid and I'm pretty sure it's why she was unpopular in both the PTA and Girl Scout council. I was the least talented of my siblings and I think I would have enjoyed my upbringing more if my mum had just relaxed more and celebrated the funny weird things I did instead of the only few achievements she found braggable. She also put me in a me against my siblings competition and I would never win.This is a lot of the reason why I don’t make my kids do anything extracurricular. They each have their own talents and quirks, all are celebrated.My own parents would make a huge fucking deal over anything I or my brothers would do. I got into painting when I was like 12, every single thing I created was hung on the wall. My one brother was doing some architectural type stuff, all his little balsa wood and pin structures were on full display in the living room. Yeah that stuff all looked like crap but my parents, for all their faults, they did a good job building self esteem in their kids.
