I have a massive exercise to do at our year end (accountancy). I didn't let on but I did all the audit on a separate file using simple (but out of the way) formulas. Not only did I reduce the task from 3 weeks to basically real time checks (no time) but when I was told that I have to perform that exercise every month my job became a doddle. I didn't let on that everything was automated by sumifs, indexing, max values and range checks. Living the dream. (Sorry if I rambled on.) Google is your friend here. Don't try to learn everything there is to know in Excel; instead, whenever you encounter a repetitive or long-winded task, try to Google how you can do that with a formula. Learn new functions one at a time as you need it. I have an Excel sheet with students' test scores. In a separate sheet, there are test scores for a repeat exam, which not all students took. I need to find the higher mark of the two tests for each student. So, the first thing you'd need here is to match a student's row in one spreadsheet with the other (using the student ID). You can try googling something like, "Excel find text in column". That'll lead you to learn the index match formulas, which are super helpful!
