Question, probably off topic - I’m assuming the repeat exam is only taken by students who don’t pass the first one. Shouldn’t the second try be pass/fail, and if they pass then they get a score recorded as a minimum passing score?(Asking because this scoring method screwed me over in a vocational school years ago - I passed my tests every time first time, but got a lower aggregate score and therefore lower rank than guys who bombed the first test and then got their higher, second try recorded as their actual grade. It basically punished students who passed the first time.In this case, anyone can take the repeat exam. I'm not entirely sure why, it might be because of how often it is for students to face technical issues during the exam. Assuming it mentioned that at orientation or somewhere else why on earth wouldn't you intentionally bomb the 1st "practice test" to get full marks on the 2nd "real" test if score was important to you? The vocational school was Marine Corps Officer Candidate School. Several weeks of sleep deprivation and physical exhaustion make a poor prelude to learning, and the school actively encourages the “Second place is the first loser” mentality among students. Rewarding failure and punishing success seems to contradict that message.I mean from a game theory perspective absolutely, getting two tries is more likely to net you a high score than one try is, but it’s inconsistent to tell people it pays to be a winner then turn around and reward the candidates who lost.
